Telegram from Havana, Cuba to Quemados, Cuba. The telegram consists of a tyepwritten message on yellow paper, using form 124. Headings on the page are written first in Spanish with the English translation beneath. The message reads as follows: "Dried fruits (crossed out-spiced) (written above- minced) august second and spring wheat flour and dried peaches invoiced august tenth to Pinar del Rio if not received wire me and will trace shipment balance fruit due will be sent as soon as received Smith." In handwriting at the bottom of the page is the following: "Repeat wire to Lacey."
The back of the page consists of the following, with the information being written in Spanish, with the English translations beneath. "The Government will not be responsible for errors in transmission of telegrams, nor for the identity of the person to whom it is addressed, nor for the indemnity in cases arising from delay, misintrepretation, or loss of telegrams. The following tariff will be collected for messages transmitted over the United States Military lines of Cuba:
For the first 10 words 20 cents, address and signature counted.
For each additional word 2 cents.
For telegrams destined to points outside of Cuba, 4 cents per word, in addition to the cable tolls."Collection
