Morgan demonstrates that McKinley set his own policy and that Hanna was the organizer of party machinery. Additions to the 1963 edition include additional sources, new analyses and interpretations, and a bibliographical essay discussing some of the most important works published since 1963 that included McKinley and his times. This edition includes a dust jacket. The front cover features an image of McKinley seated at his desk, with his hand on a book. The title is in white lettering, with the text "revised edition" and the author's name in white below the title. the back cover inludes a book review.
