Scope and Content

William McKinley, President, 100th Birth Anniversary Envelope Cover, Feb. 17, 1943. The postmark reads, "CANTON, OHIO. FEB 17 1943, 1:30 PM." A two cent rose colored "ARMY AND NAVY, FOR DEFENSE, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA POSTAGE STAMPS" stamp is located in the upper right hand corner. "BUY WAR SAVINGS BONDS AND STAMPS" and black cancellation lines run through the stamp. The envelope is addressed to "W. H. Green, 124 ClevelandS.W., Canton, Ohio" and is hand written in script. A black and white oval image of McKinley, facing right, is located on the left side. "WILLIAM McKINLEY, President 1897-1901, Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of his birth at Niles, Ohio, January 29, 1843" reads below. The back has the number 10 written on it, with faint cancellation lines, ink smudges, and brown diagonal lines where the glue has seeped through the paper due to age.
