Jacob Robert Whibley (b. 1978) is a Toronto-based artist who works predominantly in collage and sculpture. His practice focuses on examining the aesthetics of architecture and modern design, creating ambiguous and impossible forms and structures that do not reference specific styles or eras.
These photocollages draw from the artist's interest in the information and history imbedded with in objects. Magazine images of chairs, tables, and other interior decor are cut up, combined, and reworked into strange compositions that give slight hints to the source material. These new objects seemly defy physics as gravity and space are skewed and warped.
Whibley is a graduate of OCAD University and a former member of the Toronto art collective Team Macho. His work has been acquired by collections across Canada including the RBC Collection, BMO Collection, TD Collection and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
