Description

Karen Tam (b. 1977) is a Montreal-based artist and curator. Her practice highlights the intersection between community and identity, looking at overlooked aspects of her Chinese Canadian heritage. Tam's artworks critically examines the visual culture around historical narratives, public archives, and collective memory to understand how history is inscribed in cultural objects and certain creative practices. Tam holds a MFA in Sculpture (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) and a PhD in Cultural Studies (Goldsmiths, University of London). She is the Adjunct Curator at Griffin Art Projects. Tam's works are found in museum and corporate collections such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Hydro-Québec Collection , RBC Collection, Microsoft Art Collection, and in private collections across Canada, United States, and United Kingdom.
