Chih-Chien Wang is a Taiwanese-born Canadian artist whose evocative photographic and video-based practice explores the nuances of everyday life, memory, and identity. Born in Tainan, Taiwan in 1970, Wang studied Theatre and Cinema at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei before relocating to Montreal in 2002. He earned his MFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University, where he now serves as an Associate Professor in Photography2.
Wang’s work is distinguished by its quiet intensity and poetic engagement with found objects, domestic spaces, and fleeting moments. Through subtle compositions and layered narratives, he invites viewers to reflect on the emotional textures of urban existence and cultural displacement. His approach resists definitive conclusions, instead offering multiple perspectives that highlight the complexity of personal experience4.
His art has been exhibited widely across Canada and internationally, including solo shows at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, and Arsenal Contemporary Art in New York. Wang’s work is held in major collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and the Musée national des beaux-arts du QuébecMade/Created
