Steven Beckly (b.1981) is a Chinese- Canadian photographic artist living and working in Toronto. He holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Toronto and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph. His art explores the tangled relationships between the visual and the material as well as the self and community.
Working primarily in photography and sculpture, Beckly manipulates various media to create intimacy between the observer and the artwork, between ourselves and others, and with the natural world and beyond. His photographic works capture fleeting moments and feelings in order to remove their impermanence and facilitate audiences to give new meaning and narratives to the images.
Beckly’s art has been featured in exhibitions at Stride Gallery (Calgary); Centre3 (Hamilton); Daniel Faria Gallery (Toronto), Remai Modern (Saskatoon), The Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), and the Musée d'art Contemporain de Montréal. Beckly has also produced public art installations for CONTACT Photography Festival and the City of Toronto’s Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. He is represented by Daniel Faria Gallery in Toronto.Artwork Details
