Description

Amanda Reeves (b. 1974) paints in colourful, yet delicate, illusory abstraction to create "perceptual experiences" where the viewer slowly and methodically observes the surface of the composition. Her artistic practice is fascinated by the physical and psychological effects of colour and pattern. Through successive and repetitive layering and strategic colour placement, the artist produces an effect where both real and illusionary shapes emerge from and recede into the picture plane. Focusing on a single aspect of the painting becomes difficult as small, subtle changes in colour and tone guide the eye in multiple directions and create the appearance of double vision. Reeves was born in England, raised in Canada and now lives and works in the San Francisco Bay area. Since graduating with honours from Ontario College of Art & Design University in 2005, Reeves has participated in numerous exhibitions. Her work is found in the collections of the Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Medcan and Cenovus Energy amongst others. https://amandareeves.com/home.html
