Description

Ben Reeves (b. 1969, Vancouver, British Columbia) is a contemporary painter known for his large-scale impasto artworks that blur the lines between abstraction and figurative depiction. His work is actively engaged with the theory of painting, raising questions about the authenticity of imagery, while remaining deceptively traditional in practice. Inspired by the landscapes around his home on the West Coast of Canada, Reeves paints fragments from his daily life in hazy, dream-like compositions. The artist uses large mounds of paint to represent snow or rain while not attempting to disguise his brushstrokes. Sea Wall (2012) depicts a microscopic view of a car's windshield on a rainy day. Physical drops and marks of blue and white paint form large raindrops in the foreground of the blue landscape. https://www.benreeves.org/
