Description

Jessica Groome (b. 1985 Vancouver, Canada) is a Berlin-based visual artist working with painting, sculpture, collage and installation. Her practice stems from an interest in the formal design elements of colour and form as well as utilizing the reduction, repetition, surface, gesture and cutting. Recently, her works have become more collaborative. She is a member of CIRCLES & WIGS, a collaboration with Ashleigh Bartlett that operates with fluidity, humour, curiosity and lightheartedness towards a variety of art-making strategies. Nope (2013) plays with the traditions of perspective and shape. The foreground and background of the flat composition are defined through bold solid blocks of opposing colours and the contrast between dark and light. Groome received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph. She is the winner of the Joe Plaskett Award for painting and in 2011 was a finalist in the RBC painting competition. In 2016, she created an installation for the Tiergarten Rathaus (Berlin) and in 2017 was included in the Vancouver Art Gallery's Two Views on Contemporary Canadian Painting. Her work can be found in the collections of BMO, TD Bank and RBC. http://www.jessicagroome.com/
