Description

Lili Huston-Herterich (b. 1988 Chicago, USA) is an American-Canadian visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Her work is concerned with her personal relationships to physical space, history, and others. Utilizing different materials and processes, from sculpture to photography, Huston-Herterich views her art as research to explore where things come from and what meaning they assume. The artist's series of upholstered cushion depict vividly coloured house interiors from the 1950s. The three-dimensional works use the physical medium to evoke a sensory and bodily experience. The tufted cushion surface brings forth a sense of nostalgia as the viewer experiences both the physical form and visual images of a previous era. Huston-Herterich plays on the history of interior design and the various ways decoration and furniture have been used to shape our emotional state and experiences within a space. Huston-Herterich received her BFA in Visual Arts and New Media from York University in Toronto in 2010 and an MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. She has exhibited across North America at such spaces as The Power Plant, Jr Projects, 8-11, Xpace, Art Metropole, O’Born Contemporary, Mercer Union, Toronto; Shoot the Lobster, Chicago; and Topless, Rockaway Beach, USA. Her works can also be found internationally in both public and private collections. http://lilihustonherterich.com/
