Description

Mark DeLong (b. 1978, New Brunswick, Canada) is a self-taught artist working in a range of media including sculpture, drawing, painting, and sequential art. DeLong currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada and his work has featured a rotating cast of characters in situations both ordinary and surreal. Drawing inspiration from dreams, popular television and the absurdities in day-to-day life, DeLong's work combines humour with a raw and spontaneous aesthetic. His works are often abstract using mixed media in novel and varied ways. DeLong views painting and art as an instinctual practice and creates paintings with a fresh colour palette, broad marks and active abstraction. His artwork has been collected by the Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto, Canada, and has been displayed at Colette, Paris, France; Abel Neue Kunst Gallery, Berlin, Germany; Perugi Art Contemporanea, Padova, Italy; Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, COOPER COLE, Toronto, Katharine Mulherin, Toronto and New York, Monte Clark, Vancouver; ACME, Los Angeles; Spencer-Brownstone Gallery, Ed. Varie, Little Cakes, New York; Halsey McKay, East Hampton, USA Delong has collaborated with such artists as Paul Butler, Jason McLean, Jacob Gleeson, and Geoffrey Farmer. His work has been seen in Border Crossings and Canadian Art Magazine and he has published books with Nieves, Switzerland.
