Description

Nick Ostoff (b. 1974, Los Gatos, California) is a visual artist with a particular interest in how memory and photography affect our understanding of our everyday surroundings. Bouquet (2019) are a series of paintings created to mimic photographs of still-life floral arrangements taken by the artist. The artworks aim to reproduce the perspective, colour, texture, lighting, focus, and atmosphere of the original images, testing how various photographic effects can be applied in paintings. Ostoff illustrates what is lost when translating various principles of design and techniques between mediums. Ostoff obtained an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012 and a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1999. His work can be found in numerous private and public collections, including Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Kingston, Ontario; Glenbow Museum, Calgary; Medcan, Toronto; and Toronto-Dominion Bank. https://www.nicholasostoff.com/#1
