Ann Kipling (b. 1934) is a Canadian artist from Victoria, British Columbia. In the 1950s, she attended the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art and Design) and later worked with expressionist painters Jan Zack, Herbert Siebner, and Rudy Kovak before developing her own practice and individual style.
Kipling works almost exclusively in watercolour painting and drawing. Over her career, she has created an extensive portfolio of portraits and landscapes that come from multiple sessions of directly observing her subjects or sitting in landscapes over long periods of time. Kipling's unique form of impressionism is characterized by its vibrative use of line, flat perspectives, and slight realism. Her technique is suggestive of movement and the passage of time as each drawing depicts all of the subtle changes in the landscapes or models over multiple sittings.
Her work can be found in numerous public and private collections across Canada including the National Gallery of Canada and The Vancouver Art Gallery.Artwork Details
