Stéphane La Rue (b. 1968, Montreal, Quebec) explores visual effects related to colour and light. His minimalist artworks build on the traditions of Colour field painters who made colour the subject of their abstract artworks. La Rue does little to the surface, allowing for the material to produce an infinite amount of illusionary effects and visual phenomena. He often adds subtly painted lines or edges to imitate shadowing and highlights that point out the physicality of the artwork and the limits of the canvas.
Stéphane La Rue obtained a BFA from the Université du Québec à Montréal (1991) and an MFA from Concordia University (1998). Her works can be found in collections across Canada including the Galerie de l'UQAM and Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.Artwork Details
