Padloo Samayualie (b.1977, Kinngait, Nunavut) is an Inuk graphic artist best known for her diverse illustrated subject matter and ability to work in different styles. Samayualie comes from a well-known family of graphic artists and sculptures that include her sister Nicotye Samalualie (b.1983) and her cousin Annie Pootoogook (1969-2016).
From simple landscapes to mythological images, Samalualie’s works traverse both traditional and contemporary imagery . In recent years, her subject matter has focused on commercial products and architecture. Rather than tell narratives, the artist creates graphic compositions that make use of elaborate designs and patterns that visually represent the aesthetics of her life in the North.
Samayualie’s work is held in public collections internationally including the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Richard F. Brush Museum, Canton, NY, U.S.
