Lan “Florence” Yee (b.1996, Montreal) is a Toronto and Montreal-based visual artist and cultural worker whose interdisciplinary practice explores themes of language, memory, identity, labour, and belonging. Working across painting, textiles, installation, photography, and text-based art, Yee investigates how personal and collective histories are shaped through everyday forms of communication, archival materials, and overlooked narratives.
Yee’s work often draws attention to the complexities of diasporic experience, family histories, and cultural inheritance, using humour, skepticism, and unconventional storytelling to question accepted narratives. Their projects frequently combine written language with material processes, creating works that encourage reflection on migration, community, and the ways meaning is constructed and preserved over time.
A graduate of Concordia University (BFA) and OCAD University (MFA), Yee has exhibited widely, including at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Textile Museum of Canada, Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto, Art Gallery of Ontario, and Gardiner Museum. They are also co-founder of the Chinatown Biennial, an artist-led initiative supporting contemporary artistic engagement with Chinatown communities and histories.Made/Created
