Andrée-Anne Mercier's (b. 1992, Repentigny, QC) practiceoperates at the intersection of architecture, digital media, and spatial memory. Rooted in visual research gathered during international residencies, Mercier translates vernacular environments and everyday structures into precise, hard-edged geometric compositions.
Working primarily with acrylic on wooden panels, Mercier bridges digital workflows with traditional painting techniques. Her methodology originates in photographic documentation collected during daily urban walks. She digitally simplifies these images in 2D and 3D software to eliminate extraneous detail, isolating structural silhouettes, flattened color planes, and atmospheric gradients. The resulting paintings balance graphic clarity with a subtle, cinematic stillness, probing the boundary between physical, observed landscapes and idealized, digitally mediated memory.
Mercier holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) and a Graduate Certificate in Arts, Creation, and Technologies from the Université de Montréal. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions across Canada, the United States, Japan, Denmark, and South Korea, and is included in prominent public, corporate, and private collections.
