Celia Perrin Sidarous is a Montréal-based image artist whose practice explores photography as a site of memory, transformation, and storytelling. Drawing from her Egyptian heritage and family photos, well as found images, objects, and historical references, she constructs intricate compositions that blur the boundaries between documentation and fiction. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada and internationally, and is recognized for its thoughtful engagement with identity, cultural inheritance, and the material nature of photographs.
Working through a process of collage, and assemblage, Perrin Sidarous dismantles and reconfigures archival images to create layered visual narratives. Family photographs are combined with found materials and symbolic objects, becoming fragments that carry both personal and collective histories. Rather than functioning as straightforward records of the past, these images operate as emotional vessels—holding traces of memory, imagination, longing, and myth.
Her photographs evoke constructed scenarios that merge fact and fiction, weaving together inherited stories, perceived histories, superstition, recurring motifs, and moments of ambiguity. These also speak to the fluid and fragmented nature of memory. The assemblages themselves are transient, existing only for the duration of their construction before being preserved through photography, which becomes the sole enduring trace of these temporary configurations.
