Description

Anne Low (b. 1981, Stratford, Ontario) is a Montreal-based artist who's work bridges the connection between historical context and contemporary design. Working with sculpture, installations, textiles, and printmaking, she delves into domestic themes and everyday objects, drawing inspiration from her mastery of textile practices and weaving techniques. Her art challenges preconceptions of functionality, incorporating various material elements. Low's work invites introspection on the significance of decorative patterns and materials in our daily lives and highlights the the cultural contexts and meanings found in them. “Daisy” is constructed from blue cotton plaid. Often associated with farming and rural culture, the artist playfully uses the fabric to emphasize the wider history of the material, it’s form, and design, while simultaneously creating a narrative around the individual object.
