Description

Eric Glavin (b. 1965) is a Toronto-based multimedia artist from Montreal. Glavin makes use of a wide range of media including video, performance, photography, sculpture and painting. His more recent works focus on capturing aesthetics from mid-twentieth century architectural forms and spaces, which the artist sees as symbolic of a period of utopian dreams and modernist values. Glavin digital prints are created using photographs of buildings and spaces within different cities. He then uses graphic editing software to outline these forms and translate the images into two-dimensional grids of repeating shapes and patterns that have little resemblance to the original form and instead appear like urban grid plans. Glavin creates a visual language of urban infrastructure and architecture that brings attention to the impacts of urban sprawl on the natural environment and the socio-economic landscape of the city.
