Description

Eli Bornowsky's (b. 1980, Alberta) is Brooklyn-based artist with a fascination with mathematics and visual expression. Building on his earlier interests in optics and colour, Bornowsky's art are composed of "codes" that use modern mathematical number series, stochastic processes, geometric tessellations and computer software. Each artwork by the artist originates as a drawing that undergoes transformation through the application of a mathematical framework. This framework, driven by an algorithmic process, establishes the rules governing the composition and dictate how shapes and colors interact and repeat within the artwork. This systematic approach yields a unique "code" associated with each artwork, serving as a precise reflection of the underlying mathematical system. While the artwork's primary title is derived from this code, the artist's gives a secondary title based on his own take on the work. Einstein is based on a 2D geometric "einstein" shape that does not repeat itself when tiled. The shape was first identified in 2012 by a collaborative research team from the University of York, the University of Cambridge, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Arkansas.
