Description

Brent McIntosh (b. 1959) is a French-Canadian painter from Montreal, Quebec. For over thirty years, McIntosh has developed and perfected a unique process of painting pastoral landscapes using only palette knives to achieve an impressionistic and animated quality to his works by blending and carving the paint on the canvas. His art is notably characterized by the layered marks of varying vivid colours that both create and diminish the realism of his subjects. Up close, the often large-scale compositions appear abstracted and chaotic. However, at a distance, the disorder is revealed to be purposeful and orderly as the markings of paint on the canvas create the illusion of naturalistic depth and form. McIntosh received both his BFA and his MFA from York University. His work has been exhibited in gallery shows across Canada and New York State and can be found in many private and public collections, including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the University of Toronto. http://brentmcintosh.com/
