Audie Murray (b. 1993, Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Métis Michif visual artist and skin‑stitcher based in Oskana kâ‑asastêki (Regina, Treaty 4), with family connections to the Qu’Appelle and Meadow Lake regions (Treaties 4 & 6).
Grounded in Indigenous modes of learning through shared, embodied experience, her practice spans beadwork, performance, and installation. Murray’s work often reflects relationships to the body, ancestral knowledge, and alternative experiences of time. She has exhibited at major institutions including the Alberta Art Gallery, the Vancouver Art Gallery.
“We Root with the Stars” was created using pigment made from the fallen rose petals of Murray’s 2023 sculpture Rootless, featured in her 2024 solo exhibition To Make Smoke at the MacKenzie Art Gallery.
Artist statement:
The sentiment of our only constant being change is asserted in the writing of Octavia Butler who also proposes taking root amongst the stars. We Root with the Stars is an exploration of relationship with the temporal and with the stars. By processing the dried roses from the artist's sculpture Rootless into a pigment, Murray continues the life cycle of the roses that wilted in a deceitful environment. Looking towards the star blanket as a multifaceted marker of home, the artist offers a place for the roses to bloom again.Artwork Details
