Bezoar

Name/Title

Bezoar

Description

For centuries a concretion recovered from an animal's stomach was believed to have healing powers and to be protective against poisons. This is a large bezoar from a llama in the Yura Valley in Potsi Bolivia. The legal term "caveat emptor" means buyer beware and was coined in 1603 when the purchaser of a bezoar unsuccessfully sued the seller when he found his purchase to be ineffective.
