Description

Phrenology was an early 20th century racist belief that personality and intelligence were determined by appearance. Measurements by this device were used by physicians to advise their patients regarding how best to use their abilities. This particular individual’s diagnosis was senility, Images are from “Vaught’s Practical Character Reader” (1902) by L.A.Vaught. The last two images are from the “New Physiognomy” by Samuel R. Wells. (1866).
