Name/Title

Battle Creek Sanitarium

Description

Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (1852-1943) was a holistic physician from Battle Creek, Michigan whose belief in moderation brought him to national fame. Visitors from all over the world checked into his sanitarium to regain their health through a vegetarian diet, regular enemas, exercise, and therapy that included water, vibration and electrical treatments among other unusual therapeutic procedures as outlined in the enclosed advertisement. His brother Keith broke off to create the still popular Kellogg cereal company. There were three wings behind the main building - one for women, one for men and a common gymnasium.
