Head mirror

Name/Title

Head mirror

Description

This is a head mirror made by George Tiemann. Beside the stethoscope it's the instrument most commonly associated with the medical profession. The head mirror was first invented in 1841 by Friedrich Hoffman for use by physicians when good sources of light were not available. The physician would place the hole over his preferred eye and a light directed at the mirror would reflect to the desired area of the body, usually the narrowed passages of the ear, nose or throat.
