Description

This is a wooden leg splint (ca. 1850) by A.M. Day of Bennington, Vermont similar to devices used during the Civil War. Below is shown the repair of a fractured leg from "Feldtbüch der Wundartzney" (1517) by Hans von Gersdorff and to the right of that an illustration of a fractured femur from "Anatomia Pathologique du corps Humain," book 2 (1835–1842) by J. Cruveilhier and next to that is an illustration from Laurence Heister’s “A General System of Surgery” (1743).
