Scurvy ointment

Name/Title

Scurvy ointment

Description

The pot is empty but there to remind me that in 1747 James Lind performed the first double blind clinical trial to investigate the relationship between citrus fruits and the development of scurvy in British sailors. He showed that lemons and limes prevented the disease but he didn't recognize the condition as a vitamin C deficiency. That's why British sailors are sometimes called "limes." Obviously there is no ointment to prevent or to treat scurvy.
