Description

This is a top of the line four level ivory Parker's set by Tiemann accompanied by its very rare original leather case. The set is complete with the bone forceps under the large amputation saw. George Tiemann came to the United States in 1826 to set up a surgical supply company in New York City. Tiemann & Co. became one of the major manufacturers of medical equipment for the North during the Civil War and continues to be in operation. They were located at 63 Chatham Street in New York 1833 -1864, at 67 Chatham Street 1864-1886, and at 107 Park Row 1886-1921. Below is an image of their New York office during the Civil War.
