This is a very rare 19th century ivory carving of a tooth worm as it did its damage to a tooth. The tooth worm was believed to be the cause of dental disease for centuries probably because of the similarity of its appearance to the central nerve supplying each tooth. Included is a copy of an ancient Syrian illustration of that worm.Condition
