Երեքշաբթի 22 Փետ. 1927 Սիրելի Միննիս, Գեղեցիկ օրով մը կը ճամբորդենք։ Այս առաւոտ Napoli հասանք։ Vesuvius-ը դիմացնիս կանգնած է ձիւնապատ գագաթովը։ Հոս շոգենաւը 24 ժամ պիտի մնայ մենք ալ քիչ վերջ պիտի ելլենք պտտինք։ Միննի շատ հաճելի կեանք մը կանցնինք շոգենաւին մէջ։ Բոլոր ճամբորդներս ծանօթացած ենք իրարու անոնց մէջէն ամենէն interesting-ը Արաբ (ճերմակ ոչ թէ սև) երիտասարդ բժիշկ մը և իր կինն է, շատ ազնիւ համակրելի զոյգ մը։ Ամուսինը շատ զարգացած լաւ Անգլերէն և Ֆրանսերէն կը խօսի, քիչ մըն ալ Թրքերէն։ Մեր շոգենաւին մէջ շատ մը tourist-ներ ամեն ազգէ խառն։ Երէկ գիշեր concert և dance ունէին մենք ալ հրաւիրուած էինք. հաճելի ատեն անցուցինք, concert-էն վերջն ալ deck-ին վրայ պարեցինք, մասնաւորապէս այդ գիշերուան համար պատրաստուած ուժով էլէկտրական լոյսի մը տակ (?) ատեն լուսինն ալ կը փայլեր ծովուն վրայ։ Վերջապէս հրաշալի է շոգենաւով ճամբորդելը Միննի։ Սրտանց քեզի ալ կը մաղթեմ մեր այս կեանքը։ Գիտե՞ս ինչ տարօրինակ sensation մը կ՚ունենանք կոր ոչ Պոլսէն հեռանալնիս և ոչ ալ եղբօրս քով երթալնիս կ՚զգանք կարծես թէ college-էն(?) ենք։ Յարգանքներ մամային, պապային, բարևներ պզտիկ Սերքօյին և համբոյրներ քեզի Զարուհիէն և ինձմէ։ Melli Minni Handjian Garabed Handjian Bostandji Stanboul Turkey _____________________________ Tuesday, February 22, 1927 Dear Minnis, We are traveling on a beautiful day. This morning we arrived in Naples. Mount Vesuvius stands before us, with its snow-covered peak. The steamship will stay here for 24 hours, and we’ll soon go out for a little excursion. Minnis, we’re having a very pleasant life aboard the steamship. All of us passengers have gotten to know one another. The most interesting among them is an Arab (white, not black) young doctor and his wife—such a noble and likable couple. The husband is very cultured, speaks excellent English and French, and even a little Turkish. There are many tourists on our steamship, a mix from all nations. Last night there was a concert and a dance—we were invited as well. We had a lovely time. After the concert, we danced on the deck under electric lights specially set up for the evening. The moon was also shining over the sea. Minnis, traveling by steamship is truly wonderful. I sincerely wish you could experience this life too. You know, we have such a strange sensation—it doesn’t feel like we’re leaving Constantinople or even going to my brother’s place. It feels more like we’re leaving college.
