Arschak Effendi, Husseini Saz Semaissi/Husseini Taxim - Out SoloDescription
From 1911 to 1913, Arşak Çömkekçiyan recorded for Orfeon, the first record label in the Ottoman Empire, founded in 1910 by Julius and Hermann Blumenthal. The Blumenthal brothers soon began releasing 78s under the Orfeon and Orfeos labels, and later opened Turkey’s first record factory in Feriköy.
Armenian-born composer and oud player, Arşak Çömkekçiyan was born and died in Gedikpaşa, Istanbul (1880-1930). He studied music under Kirkor Çulhayan and Kemânî Tatyos, gaining the “Udi” title. He later opened a music shop, where he continued to pursue his passion for music. Çömkekçiyan is also noted for nurturing his son, Nubar Tekyay, a talented violinist. His works, described as “written with a public attitude” (“Piyasa tavrında yazılmış”), were published by Udi Onnik Zaduryan between 1922 and 1924. In addition to composing numerous songs, Çömkekçiyan also taught music in Turkish schools.Audio Format
