General Note

Note

The Parnay family name was originally Yedi-Kardashian. In the early 1900s, it was shortened to Parnay by a family member, S. Y. Parnay (Parnag), likely for practical reasons. Parnag, born in Kostamanou near the Black Sea in Turkey around 1885, later moved with his family to Kayseri in central Turkey before emigrating to the United States around 1900. He settled in Pasadena and worked briefly for the U.S. Forest Service. Parnag had a brother named Mardig who was in the Oriental business in Berkeley in 1906, two blocks from Sather Gate. More can be read about them in the Web Links.
