Description

The work "History of Armenians" was published in 1890, posthumously, it had four editions (1890, 1895, 1911, 1920). Balasanian divided Armenian history into six periods: - The origin of the Armenian people to the arrival of the Parthians in Armenia (2300-150 BC), - The arrival of the Parthians to Armenia until the adoption of Christianity (150 BC - 300 AD), - The adoption of Christianity to the Arab invasions (300-640), - The Arab invasions to the decline of political life (640-1080), - Armenian rule in Cilicia (1080-1375), - The decline of political life until 1885. Balasanian distinguished himself from his predecessors by adopting a historical perspective that emphasized dynamic processes and gradual development. He particularly recognized the significant influence of natural factors in shaping historical events. These books were used in schools throughout both Constantinople and the interior provinces.
