The Surp Nigoğayos Armenian Church, located on Mehmet Yavuz Street in Beykoz, was built in 1776. It was rebuilt with the philanthropy of Canig Amira during the time of Patriarch Isdepanos II Ağavni and was opened for worship in 1834. Four years later, the roof tiles and ceiling, which were damaged by an earthquake, were renovated. After being neglected for a long time, the church underwent extensive restoration and was reopened in 1946. It is the only church in Istanbul whose holy altar is made of mother-of-pearl.
The church, which underwent repairs in 1962, 1970, and 1982, also has a cemetery. Researcher Yetvart Alyanakyan writes that he saw two gravestones in the cemetery with inscriptions dated 1679 and 1691.Created By
