Description

“Anush” (Armenian: Անուշ) is a five-act opera by Armen Tigranian, based on Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 1892 poem. Composed in 1912, it premiered in Alexandropol but had its first full professional staging in 1935 at the Armenian National Opera Theater. As a major achievement in Armenian musical history, Anush remains in Armenia’s repertoire and is celebrated for its deep connection to Armenian folk music and culture. The opera tells the tragic story of a peasant girl, Anush, whose love for Saro ends in tragedy due to conflict with her brother Mossy.
