She graduated from the American missionary school in Tehran in 1919 and later worked as a teacher. Starting in 1935, she published short stories in the Iranian Armenian press. In 1937, she moved to the United States, where she contributed to publications such as "Nor Gir" and "Paykar." In 1945, she published her first collection, "Fate," in Boston, depicting the lives of Iranian Armenian workers and the plight of women. Between 1954 and 1957, she released three children's books in Tehran titled "Vahagi Petik." She also wrote a series of moralistic letters titled "From Our Daily Life" in the weekly "Hayastani Kochank," addressed to her imaginary sister, Shushanig, who lived in Iran.
Jagadakir consists of 19 short stories. Davitian is well acquainted with the environment and characters she describes, especially Persia, where beggars and thieves are familiar to her both outside and inside. She has a warm and affectionate attitude toward ordinary and deprived people and protests against the world's injustices with artistic expression.Book Details
