Lord's Prayer Plaque

Description

This plaque features the Lord's Prayer in Armenian and was likely given as a gift to donors for their homes. The inscription mentions the Աղքատախնամ Մարմին (Charitable Body) of St. Kevork Church in Samatya, Constantinople, dated 1888, suggesting it was created as part of a charitable initiative. The church burnt down repeatedly in the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and between 1866 and 1887, following another fire in 1877, the church was rebuilt as an endowment by Michael Hagopian, preserving only the foundations of the Byzantine structure and remnants of the original building. Additionally, two large schools were constructed near the church. This plaque was likely given as a gift to donors or was used to showcase the completion of the church.
