Description

Büyük Udi Serkis Efendi was a prominent oud player born in Istanbul's Yenikapı district. He collaborated with notable artists, including Tatyos Efendi, and is known for his composition in the Hicaz makam, "Cemâlin benziyor ay'a kara kaşların yay'a." There is some discrepancy regarding his date of death; some sources state he passed away at a young age in Istanbul's Yedikule district in 1913, while others suggest 1925. Küçük Udi Serkis Efendi, also born in Yenikapı, gained fame as an oud and tambur player. He became well-known in Istanbul's music circles, distinguishing himself from Büyük Udi Serkis Efendi. Unfortunately, detailed information about his life and works is limited.
