Meliksedek Muradiants was born in the village of Tavush, Armenia. He graduated from the Nersisian School in Tiflis, where he later taught Armenian language and history. In 1865–1866, he taught at K. Pauls. In 1867, he was appointed Inspector of the Heritage School of Hakob Monastery. He also edited the magazine Zion. In 1869, he was ordained as a reverend, and in 1879, he became a bishop. In 1877, he was elected as the spiritual leader of Smyrna. He published religious and ecclesiastical books, such as the first edition of this book, the History of the New Testament (1871), and History of the Christian Church (1898), as well as grammar books and other works, and made several translations. In 1860, he published articles in the magazine Krunk Armenian World on the topic of national enlightenment. In these articles, he debated with Stepanos Nazaryan, opposing his proposal to reform the church and advocating for the church and religion to retain leadership in education. He died in Smyrna (Izmir) in 1903.Book Details
