Coffee/Spice Grinder (Haci Artin)

Description

Haci Artin Movsesyan, an Armenian craftsman of the Ottoman period, was renowned for producing brass coffee grinders, widely recognized as antiques today. These cylindrical grinders, typically 20–30 cm long, featured a removable crank that could be folded for compact storage, a detachable top for adding coffee beans, and a middle section for collecting ground coffee. Movsesyan operated from Uzun Çarşı No. 282 in Istanbul, manufacturing and repairing grinders until the 1970s. His products, believed to date back to the 1930s, often bore a hand-stamped “Hacı Artin” mark. Packaging included multilingual documentation, typically in French but not English. These grinders remain notable for their durable design and practicality, appealing to both collectors and coffee enthusiasts.
