Iskender Arabian Coin Rocker (circa 1910)Description
The Antique Iskender Arabian 4-Inch Coin Rocker, produced in Constantinople, features a triangular pan, a folding handle, and a racked dial. The rocker can also be used to weigh gold, jewels, and other precious items. It was also very regularly used against counterfeit materials. This device is marked No. 1005 - Breveté SGDG and includes Eastern, Western, and Arabic numerals. The coin rocker is likely to have developed around 1910 since the first mention of it was made by the 1910 edition of the La Revue Du Monde Arabe. The coin is placed on the triangular end of the beam against the two locating pins. The weight is set by dialing the disc which moves along the beam via a toothed racked and pinion. The ' handle ' folds flat against the beam when not in use.Made/Created
