Sahak II Khabayan (March 25, 1849 – October 8, 1939) was the Catholicos of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church from 1902 to 1939. Born in Yeghiki, Kharpert, he trained in Constantinople and Jerusalem. His tenure included the Armenian genocide, leading to his exile first from Sis and later Adana. From 1921, he wandered the Middle East without a permanent home. By 1929, at age 80, Sahak sought aid from the Near East Relief organization, which helped establish an orphanage in Antelias, Lebanon, where he envisioned an Armenian theological seminary after the genocide had decimated existing ones. To share his responsibilities, he elected Papken I Guleserian as co-adjutor Catholicos in 1931, serving until Guleserian's death in 1936. Sahak II passed away three years later at age 90.Book Details
