Hayots Badmutiun (Kevork Mesrob, 1923)Description
Kevork Mesrob, born Kevork Der-Mesrobian on May 1, 1881, in Bardizag, was a teacher, author, and public servant in the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. He studied locally before attending the Armenian Patriarchate Seminary in Jerusalem, which he completed in three years. He later trained at the Armash Seminary, finishing a three-year course in one year, and was ordained as a deacon.
In 1908, Mesrob returned to education, becoming a principal and teacher in Rodosto, Adapazar, and Constantinople. After WWI, he worked at the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, compiling historical documents. Although targeted by the Ottoman government, he avoided arrest during the Armenian Genocide due to a mistaken identity.
In 1922, Mesrob relocated to Bulgaria, opening the Mesrobian Lyceum in Plovdiv, later moving it to Sofia. Financial difficulties led to its closure in 1937, after which he became principal of the Armenian school in Haskovo. He contributed extensively to the Armenian press and authored several historical works, including books on Armenian Christianity and textbooks on Armenian history and geography. He passed away on September 30, 1948, in Sofia.Book Details
