Photograph #28Description
“A souvenir of true love Diran Papazian 4 January 1910 Uskudar”
It is possible that Diran Papazyan was a Berberyan graduate and went on to study law.
Studio Parnasse was operated by the Armenian photographer Krikor Derarsen in the 1890s to the 1910s. Located at 288 Grand Rue de Pera, the studio stood in one of Istanbul’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan districts, an area densely populated with Armenian and Greek photography establishments. A large number of Derarsen’s carte de visite and cabinet portraits survive today, attesting to the popularity of his studio.
No photographs of other subjects, however, are known to have surfaced, suggesting that the operation was highly conventional in scope. The work produced under the “Parnasse” name is generally modest in style, prioritizing a clear and faithful likeness over artistic experimentation. The studio appears to have closed around the time of the First World War, as no prints from a later period have been identified.Photograph Details
