Yetvartuhi Pastırmacıyan was the daughter of Setrak Pastırmacıyan and the first cousin of Karekin Pastırmacıyan, also known as Armen Garo. Setrak was the son of Khachatur (Kaçatur) and Zanazan Pastırmacıyan, who had several children: Harutyun, Hovhannes (Ohannes), Dikran, Setrak, and their sisters.
The family, who were among the most wealthy in Erzurum, played an active role in Armenian political and social movements. Hovhannes, the second son of Kaçatur, participated in Armenian demonstrations in Erzurum, while Harutyun joined protests advocating for the rights of defenseless Armenians. Harutyun’s children included Karekin Pastırmacıyan (Armen Garo), Haçik, Vahan, and Hermine.
In 1908 Setrak Pastırmacıyan served as the assistant manager of the Erzurum branch of the Ottoman Bank. Before this, he—along with his brothers Hovhannes and Dikran—was sentenced to a long prison term for revolutionary activities. On February 10, 1915, just before the Armenian Genocide, Setrak was assassinated in broad daylight by two soldiers.
