Filigree Cross (early/mid-1800s?)

Name/Title

Filigree Cross (early/mid-1800s?)

Description

A filigree cross made from an unidentified metal, adorned with coins—though it’s unclear whether they are authentic or replicas—bearing the mark of Mahmud II (1808-1839). There’s a chance that this cross is from the Balkan Orthodox world. Hovsep Tokat mentioned that the Assyrians of Mardin were skilled in this craft, but it is evident that this is an Armenian cross. The Ebay seller also said it was an Armenian cross and that the dealer that sold it to him said that it was.
