Paris, November 3, 1911 Reverend Father (Priest), Sir (Effendi), You must claim (or tell others) that a letter reached you from Paris together with the outstanding (or extraordinary) fee. To be fair, you have the right to tell the truth as well, but even so, please accept my letter for its purpose. First, I want to congratulate you on your new position on behalf of the entire family. I also wish to thank you, on behalf of Mrs. and Miss Hovsepyan and the entire family, for the comforting letter you were kind enough to write to us. I was late in writing to you about these two matters, but I know you will forgive me, knowing that I have been very busy lately with our Surpig’s atelier. As you can see, until now, we have not been entirely free—there is always something missing, always something left undone. For sure, our Onnik has prepared for you, on behalf of my mother, once again, the matter of the outstanding fee to be given to you. We know that your time is valuable, especially in your current position, but this is the last time, and my mother is well aware of your kind heart. In short, here is the matter: for the remaining burial-related report or title deed, you will kindly agree to provide the report or title in exchange for receiving 20 gold coins and recognizing only a 40-cents (qrush) expense fee, as my aunts have written to us. You will send the money to us with a cheque made out in my name, that is, A. D. Tchouhadjian. Today, I will write to my aunts to inform them that I have sent this letter to you, and I hope you will arrange this matter for our goodwill. Surely, you heard from Onnik that for a long time, we eagerly anticipated your visit when we heard that you had set off on a journey. But in vain, as everyone’s expectations were unmet when we learned that you went to Constantinople without visiting Paris. Therefore, we are keeping our hopes alive for another time. Regarding our relatives, Onnik wrote to us that they would set off on the 1st of the next month. That’s why we are waiting for Onnik’s letter via land mail (par voie de terre) or for his telegram. Once again expressing to you our deepest gratitude, I conclude my letter, waiting for good news from you and your family.
